Dr Samet Şahin is a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Lancaster University, where he leads the Şahin Research Group. His research focuses on Molecular Bioelectronic Engineering, integrating molecular recognition, bioelectronic interfaces and electrode engineering to develop systems that sense biological information, harvest biochemical energy and generate controlled responses. His work spans electrochemical biosensors, enzymatic biofuel cells, self-powered bioelectronics, and wearable and implantable devices.

He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemical Engineering from Hacettepe University, Türkiye, and his PhD in Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials from Newcastle University. Before joining Lancaster, he held academic positions in Türkiye and was a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at Northwestern University, where he worked on biointegrated and transient electronic systems.

Alongside his research, he contributes to teaching and research leadership within the School of Engineering and supervises researchers and students working across biosensors, bioelectronics and electrochemical technologies.
